On the other hand, I wouldn't say, that every movie with every kind of message should be shown to the public, same with books. It's a bit of an extreme example, but would you let people legally show outspokenly racist, sexist or any other kind of hatred inciting movie? And based on what the poster says about the two sides of the story, it kinda worth the anxiety... In fact, I don't think the model has to do anything with lolita fashion, so these rumors are just dumb. Her skirt is far too short, she doesn't really wear accessories, and she simply doesn't create the impression of a real life lolita... Most movie producers wouldn't bother to find realy lolitas, if the movie is not about them. But considering that this is just some obscure indie documentary, I don't think any loli will every meet someone who watched it or had seen the poster and remembers it.Anna Miohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15475539455145837265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6023134183255884485.post-74640098233744957262015-02-14T08:40:31.861-08:002015-02-14T08:40:31.861-08:00This is kind of an old post but, I think what upse...This is kind of an old post but, I think what upset me most about the cover is that it /reinforces/ an idea that most people have about Lolita. People assume that Lolita is about pedophilia, and when you try to convince them otherwise, they could easily use this as a point against you. "If Lolita isn't about pedophilia, then why is a Lolita on the cover of a movie about pedophilia?"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12011802901214561954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6023134183255884485.post-3000964659315914602014-10-09T14:26:57.393-07:002014-10-09T14:26:57.393-07:00The rest of the world views you as a 6-year-old tr...The rest of the world views you as a 6-year-old troll. I'm not trying to start drama or anything of the like, forgive me if I upset you, but I felt you were dismissing my thoughts out of turn. I didn't meanto be rude to you. I really did like your post. Judging from the trailer I watched, the documentary appears to be portraying pedophilia as acceptable alternative to "normal" sexual practices -- or even attempting to paint it as a "normal" sexual practice... Which to me, is an incredibly horrible thing to do.

At first, my attention (and ire) was drawn by the Lolita poster (otherwise, I likely never would have heard of it) but after watching the trailer, I found something that was much more troubling than a mere representation of a fashion that I happen to dress in and admire. Honestly, I think Lolitas will always have to deal with the "pedo-bait" stereotype/misconception just as Goths have to deal with the "all Goths are Satanists/Evil" stereotype/misconception and so on. It's not good, it's not cool but it's just the way society chooses to percieve alternative subcultures/fashions.

However, like I said, I am much more troubled and upset by the documentary's take on pedophilia. I may be more sensitive than most about it but I'm most certainly not the only one that feels that way (though, it seems that people who noticed the film's deplorable stance on pedophilia were in the minority in the Lolita community as compared to those bitching and whining about the poster spreading the misconception about their chosen style of dress.)...

I don't think the documentary is going to make it very far, honestly -- most people won't leave the theatre/film festival going "My, I never realized how ACCEPTABLE AND NORMAL the sexual abuse of children is! I'm now going to advocate this!" but the way they seemed to have tackled the subject in the documentary (judging from the quotes they chose in the trailer, which was likely done to help promote controversey, but regardless of that...) is kind of troubling to me.

It's a really difficult subject to get into. I think that if people are going to complain about a film, they really ought to do it for a better reason than one of the posters creating additional fuel for a common misconception about an alternative fashion subculture...

Sorry about commenting with such a massive rant >o<PunkasaurusJessnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6023134183255884485.post-54673158194175509272012-06-21T18:35:39.522-07:002012-06-21T18:35:39.522-07:00I typed it in on Google after reading this article...I typed it in on Google after reading this article, and the picture is different from that Loli girl there. Or real stones, as pedophilia and anything associated with it tends to angry up the blood. But pedophilia is not about grown women looking childlike, it's about actual children, and this simply makes them look like they don't even know their own subject matter. And last, what about the men? They are getting the rawest deal of all out of this.Soraya_channoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6023134183255884485.post-88140481844685358592012-06-21T18:35:16.460-07:002012-06-21T18:35:16.460-07:00 Thank you, you've said everything I was think... I'm a lolita, but I am a goth as well. The false way in which the media has portrayed goths for years led to (especially in Europe) goths being physically mugged, raped, beat-up and even a few being killed. In the less drastic extent of things, especially in the 90s, we were easily outcast of churches (I am a born-again fundamentalist Christian, as well as a goth and a lolita, so this really deeply has affected my life), schools, ext.

Something reaching more of the public in such a light about lolita (spreading a dangerous and potentially deadly disease) would hurt a lot of us.

I agree with you to an extent, all due respect, but I have never seen the method of, "look away and it'll go away" work in the real world. Usually, it just causes things to get worse. From my understanding, the girl in the poster was not told that her photo was going to be used for this, that rather it was for a "fashion shoot".Kirstenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00837608902649160358noreply@blogger.com
