BtSSB's Kuranosuke Stripe JSK

I've been neglecting to update news on newest brand releases, I'm not going to lie, mainly it's been because I had no idea how to navigate Baby's new site so I was pretty much the last to know about their new releases XD Well, I've figured that out now, but Caramea over at New Vogue Children still beat me to this one, but I'm still going to talk about it anyways because I'm simply in love with it.

Kuranosuke Stripe is actually an Alice & the Pirates release, and it is awesome! I'm such a sucker for vertical stripes, and while many brands release prints with some sort of vertical stripe, maybe vertical columns of flowers, or polka-dot filled stripes with candy scattered around them, very few release simple 2 color stripes. The black and white stripes I especially love! Many Lolitas like to wear clothes that make them nostalgic towards their childhood with things like 80's pastels and unicorns, but my childhood memories consist of Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, so of course I'm going to get all warm and fuzzy inside when I see black and white stripes like this!

The one detail I'm not too fond of on this dress is the bustle. Don't get me wrong, I love a good bustle, but this bustle is just way too narrow for my tastes, and I much prefer a bustle like this when the fabric is the same as the rest of the dress.

Kuranosuke Stripe is currently up for reserve, and will be hitting shops and website come January. It's also paired up with a cute round headdress and a black blouse. The set is part of a collaboration with Kuragehime (or Jellyfish Princess), which is apparently a manga and new anime about a girl who loves jellyfish way too much and the fashionable crossdresser who saves them.

Jellyfish are apparently very rori.

I'm actually a little bit excited about this anime now XD It's based on a josei manga, which is aimed at older teens and women, so (hopefully) there will be considerably less sparkles and pantie shots than your average anime with frilly dresses.

Or not...

The more I read about this anime, the more I sort of really want to watch it XD I think I'm off to go find it now!

  3. Oh wow, love this dress. I think I'm going to be one of the few with this point of view, but I ADORE the dustle back in the black. If I had a prayer of fitting this I'd be all over it.

  6. I definitely love the striped JSK, and the ridiculously bow-full OP. Someone else recommended this series pretty highly, so I'll probably be watching it when I get a chance myself!

  7. Ooh, I thought Beetlejuice the first time I laid eyes on this JSK too! I actually really the bustle on this item, but I can see how it might be too off for some people.

Too bad I'll never to able to afford this thing though, I guess I'll have to settle for tracking down some striped fabric on my own and making a similar version.

  10. I actually watched the anime before hearing about this collection so, needless to say, I was so excited that I nearly screamed when I read this post.

I think you would really enjoy it. It isn't your typical girly shoujo anime/manga; the characters are a bit more believable than the generic "demure quiet shy nerdy girl that turns hot" type of anime. I can say there is no character that I particularly dislike, and none are TOO extreme in terms of stereotypes. They have the first 6 episodes dubbed on YouTube under Funimation's channel, you should watch it!

  11. I just LOVE this jumperskirt. The design totally reminds me of the infamous striped dress from Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow <3 And, even though I agree that the bustle part is too narrow, I think I can overlook that-- just because it's a black and white striped pattern XDDD

  14. This really reminds me of a good old Tim Burton's movie!
I love AAP dresses and stuff, it's classy and does not need loud prints to be beautiful. This is an example of what I mean ^_^ I really like how it is more and more different from Baby.
But now I want a Jellyfish print, it's too much cute! XD

  23. After seeing your post here, I found out that they've already put the first several episodes of jellyfish Princess on Hulu with subtitles! And it's awesome! I'm so in love with this show now. Also, your link to the collab broke! I'm looking for the new page, but you're right, baby's new page is super obnoxious. :/
    Must see jellyfish dresses!
