Autumnal Prints

One of the best things about Lolita is the fact that there are so many different themes that there is something appropriate for every season and occasion. One of my favorite, and the most practical, thing to match my Lolita coordinates to is the season. There are a few things that, to me, are just perfect to wear in the Fall season. You don't have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe for Fall, and you're not forbidden to wear anything not on this short list, but here are some suggestions and ideas if you are looking to add a special piece or two to match this season.

Autumnal prints
  • Tartan. I think the one print that matches the season most of all is Tartan or Plaid, especially in muted and earth tone colors. Maybe it's Tartan's association with back to school, or the fact that it's often made of a thicker and warmer fabric, but Tartans are always perfect for fall.
  • Heraldry and royalty. While this is a rare to see coats of arms in prints, it is much more common to see crowns used. This is probably just a personal preference, but for some reason these things, especially combined with subdued classic colors and printed in dull golds or warm browns, always reminds me of autumn. It might be the color combos that are so often used with these prints, or maybe it's the link to history and so these prints sort of have a back-to-school feel, just like Tartan.
  • Forest scenes. Even if the forests aren't gold and red and in full autumn bloom I still find forest scenes to be very Autumnal when it comes to Lolita prints.
  • Deer. This can sometimes go hand in hand with a forest scene print, but a print featuring deer, so long as it's not Angelic Pretty's pink chubby cartoon deers, always screams Autumn to me.
  • Apples. An infrequent theme that is just perfect for the Fall season, for obvious reasons.
  • Floral prints in muted colors. While pastel flowers might be very Summery, flowers in muted browns, dusty pinks, and dark salmony pinks are very reminiscent of Fall and sometimes even goes so far as to look like bunches of red and gold leaves to me.
Here are some specific prints that always feel very Autumnal to me, especially in these colors.

What are some of your favorite pieces to wear in the Fall? Or pieces, prints or non-prints, that you've always wanted to get a hold of to wear in this season? Do you match your wardrobe, even just some of it, to the seasons? Or does your wardrobe know no seasons besides adding some layers in the winter?

  2. How ironic....I just posted an Autumn themed blog over on Les Fleurs Noires. Our minds must be on the same track.

  3. dark rose/flower fabrics remind me of the autumn ^^ For that reason, I purchased a black Bodyline skirt with a rose theme.

And aside from prints and dresses; barets and scarves :3 And maybe cute short jackets, in colors such as bordeaux and black.
I also tend to find darker nailpolishes suitable for fall.

Also; not having a fringe reminds me of autumn too! XD
I usually clip mine aside, because it's uncontrolable because of the weather! Stupid rain!

I tend to find the IW Deer-JSK more christmas-y though

  4. I prefer to season-up my accessories, so I can wear my favorite things all year round! I choose think textured tights and warm blouses, as well as scarves, fingerless gloves, and adorable hats!

  5. I happen to be wearing Meta Old Emblem this weekend. I absolutely love old emblem! I am looking to buy a dress with a forest scene sometime but I don't have a favourite yet. I think Fall is my favourite season. It is so pretty with the crispy leaves in so many colours.

  6. Personally I'm a plaid/tartan freak of nature! I also love animal prints for the fall ~ I feel they are most appropriate at this time.

  7. Tartan, apples, and IW's deer print always make me think of autumn!

There are some really beautiful dresses pictured here, I've always loved the retro feel to Meta's apple print.

  12. Yes! That's a great idea too! I do that as well, sometimes it's amazing how different jewelry choices and the perfect cardigan can really change the look of an outfit.

  13. I know what you mean about going fringless! It is a very summery hair style and sometimes even just sweeping it to the side gives it a more mature/autumny look. XD for some reason, I always associate more mature styles with the cooler seasons.

  14. XD Great minds think alike! Great post btw, I think gothic is pretty perfect year round, but the best part of wearing it when it's cooler is that you can layer even more black on it! Also, no one bothers you with the dreaded "Aren't you hot wearing black?" question.

  16. I love the snow white one. But that baby jumperskirt is also really lovely.

And while is interesting to acomodate colors by the season it kinda gets complicated when you live in a place like use to. Where the only climates that exist are hot, very hot and fresh and nice for a little while, such is the life at the tropics. Now I live in place that likes to have all four seasons the same day O.o
