A Somewhat Bitchy Response to Anon Regarding My Blog

I turned on anonymous posting for my How Not To Be An Ita post, because I figured some people would disagree with me, and I really don't mind that, I wanted to hear what people had to say but might be afraid to say otherwise. So please, don't think that this is a "Well, you can't be trusted to agree with me, so I'm turning anon posting back off : (" flounce.

I thought about adding this note to the post about Itas, since I had to say it to practically every anon who commented, but it really applies to me and my whole blog, not just that post. I thought it would be obvious, because this blog is in English, but I am not a Japanese Lolita, nor am I a brand marketer, I am a Western Lolita. So, when I talk about Lolita's trends, the community, it's early days, and so forth, I'm talking about how Lolita is interpreted and perceived in the West. Especially when I'm talking about things like trends, I am not talking about what is being sold through brand websites, I am talking about what the majority of Western Lolitas are and are not wearing. I don't give a shit if Baby is still selling square headdresses and stripper platform shoes. Most western Lolitas simply aren't wearing them. I think that warrants a "It's not as popular as it used to be."

  1. As far as I know, most Western lolitas think bxw is fine. As for you, and the ones who don't, the only reason you think that is because it's the most common ita colour scheme. If the itas move on to sax blue and white, will you label that ita too?

I found most of that post offending, as a regular bxw-and-platform shoes wearer. Sure, it's not AS OMG POPULAR but that doesn't mean it's ita, either.

  2. @ Anon - The reason it's the common Ita color scheme is BECAUSE it was popular back in the day. The problem with Itas using it and similar trademark "Ita" things is because most don't know enough about the fashion to be able to wear it well - they'll find a KAWAII DESU LOLITA COSPLAY dress on eBay to wear. Of course not all "old school" lolita things are ita, but the way itas wear them, the poor quality and costume-y ness of their clothing makes them look bad.

  3. I'm not saying that black and white and platforms are awful. I actually wear both black and white outfits and platforms. The point of the post was not to say how ugly they were, it was just pointing out that these two things are ASSOCIATED with itas, and that they are no longer as popular as they once were.

  4. @Diana- Thank you! I was beginning to think that no one could grasp the concept! I thought from the examples of nasty eBay dresses it was clear that I was not talking about high quality black and white brand dresses, but I guess some people can't tell the difference.

  5. A little off topic, but damn I wish people would quit saying things are "costume-y". Some cosplay costs more than an entire brand outfit, socks included.
Back on topic, some anons need to crawl back to 4chan.

  6. Well, when we say "costume-y", we mean it looks like a cheap costume from ebay, cosplay is a totally different story XD

  7. Hmm, your intention is okay but I think it's on the way you explain it. It's not like 'helping' but more of 'implying rules'. Do this, not that.

If I were a beginner, I would probably lose the thrill to try the fashion out if I read your entry.

  8. I hate rules too!!! But I still support her blog because I can tell she had very good intentions! And this coming from someone who owns two black and white jsks XD

    -Bunnymonster, no beginner :p

  9. This may seem a very odd inquiry...were I 40 years younger I would be all over this manner of dress, and yet...I am a "mature" woman. Do you know of any women in their 40s or 50s or 60s who have so much fun with fashion? I'm not sure what I'm asking here...I gues...what form would Lolita dressing take if one were much older?

  10. There are a few Lolitas in their 40s. The style hasn't really been around long enough for people to have simply always been Lolitas, they they are discovering it as late in life as you might be. I would personally suggest either Gothic or Classic Lolita. I am actually working on a post about dressing more mature, so you could keep an eye out for that.

  11. If you want to be considered genuine in anything, you will take the time to study all you can before you decided to try and become a part of it.

Lolita doesn't need flakes and dabblers in the fashion, it only makes new serious Lolitas that much more confused.

    1. @Snuggle - And yet...you didn't create the fashion. So pretentious for a mere follower.

  12. I enjoy your blog and discussions very much. Women my age are more likely to be into Rockabilly if anything. But it's so refreshing to see unconventional style, whatever form it takes.
